Overview & Reviews
After undergoing a full redesign last year, Chevrolet's heavy-duty three-quarter-ton truck gets few changes for 2002. Air conditioning is now standard on all trim levels along with extendable sunshade visors and improved base model radios.
- Class-leading engines and hauling capacity, roomy interior, superior brakes.
- Spotty build quality, cheap interior materials.

Reliable Truck - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By meanandlien - June 12 - 2:00 amI have no real complaints about the truck. I have over 25K miles on it and Ive had no problems. The suspension is a little stiffer than other trucks Ive owned which makes the ride a bit choppy. When the engine is cold I do get the "piston slap" but I have been told that this is just the way the engine was designed. Great Truck

Great pickup! - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By hogman26 - March 18 - 10:00 amI bought this truck because I liked the way it looked over the half-ton. I am completely satisfied by it so far. The performance is unbelieveable a true strong running truck. My truck has the 6.0L in it more than enough power. But I have added dual exhaust and plan on an intake system in the near future. Still it has more power than other pickups when it was stock. I have had no mechanical problems yet. Just a little rattle under the dash. I highly recomend this truck.

Electrical problems - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By Terry - November 6 - 8:30 amCant beat the 8.1 Allison combo for pulling and towing. Ride is rough. I had electrical problems. It would just die and fail to restart for 5 min. to 3 hrs. then run fine. Never did get it resolved.

Most solid vehicle I have owned - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By j alexander - August 23 - 11:23 amThis has been almost trouble free. The one area of trouble was taken care of by GM with an extended warrenty of 200,000 miles on the injectors. Getting an overall mileage of 17.5mpg, with some tanks going into the 20 + when driving all e-way, even at a steady 75+ MPH. The diesel pulling power is great. I towed 18,000 lbs from Sarasota Fl. to Phila. Pa. and averaged 12.2 mpg.

Piston knock - 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD
By BC in Arkansas - August 3 - 10:00 amEngine knock. The dealer told me it was a lifter and that is normal to knock after start up. I took it in a few weeks ago about the start up knock again. This time I was given a bulletin from Chevrolet stating that they are experiencing this in several engine sizes. It is a piston slapping the cylinder that is causing the knock. Chevrolet says it is harmless and they are not going to do anything about it at this time. Ive been told they are issuing 100,000 mi. warranties to those who continue to complain. This truck is cheap compared to my 1994 Chevy 1500 I had. This is my last Chevy PU.
